How does timing work for a newborn that may arrive early, or late?

My newborn sessions are only tentatively scheduled into the books for this very reason. The actual date and time gets locked in once your meet your baby and you have settled into this new life. Do know that even then things can change as medical appointments always tend to get scheduled on the newborn session date. You will receive your first appointment information usually when you are discharged. Please just keep me updated as soon as possible so that we can accommodate scheduling conflicts.

- Sessions are typically scheduled 10 am -4 pm depending on the number of hours of daylight that time of year. Midday light tends to be more even so that's when I schedule these sessions. In the summer, sessions can be scheduled later to accommodate working parents or after school. Winter is on a more compressed schedule as the sun sets earlier.

- If you have toddlers, schedule to avoid nap time/eating time, but do understand that with kids under 3 I will likely get about 30 seconds to 5 minutes of cooperation. I can usually coax enough out of them for a full set where you cannot even tell there was a meltdown. My portfolio speaks for itself.  The session is 2.5 hours not because of the adults, but more about creating the environment for success with the kids. Relax as there's time to feed, and change baby as necessary. If you are interested in a family film, when kids meltdown, doing an activity will help them reengage with the family. It also takes the pressure off them to 'perform'.

- Please schedule your newborn session within the first 3 weeks of life. After that, some babies have feeding issues, acne, etc.

- Inform me of scheduling blackout periods (work commitments, school, appointments) so we can plan for these ahead of time. You cannot imagine the number of times families have told me they have no restrictions and once baby comes they realize they can only do a few days during the first 3 weeks of life. Sessions take place during weekdays/non-holidays.
